Beware of adopting many lenient opinions

Imām Ibn ʿAbdulbarr al-Mālikī (d. 463 هـ) transmitted consensus against adopting many lenient opinions:

ʿAbdulwārith informed us: Qāsim ibn Aṣbagh narrated us: Aḥmad bin Zuhayr narrated us: Al-Ghilābī narrated us: Khālid bin al-Ḥārith narrated us, he said: Sulaymān at-Taymī said:

If you were to adopt the ruḫṣa (lenient opinion) of every scholar, all evil would be gathered in you.

And aṭ-Ṭabarī mentioned it, from Aḥmad bin Ibrāhīm, from Ghassān bin al-Mufaḍḍal, he said: Khālid bin al-Ḥārith informed me, he said: Sulaymān at-Taymī said to me:

If you were to adopt the ruḫṣa (lenient opinion) of every scholar, all evil would be gathered in you.

Abū ʿUmar (Ibn ʿAbdulbarr) said: This is a consensus (iǧmāʿ) concerning which I know of no disagreement. And all praise belongs to Allāh.
